Visual message on the PLATO building at the occasion of the International Women’s Day.

March 8 is the International Women’s Day. We are in 2021 but women are still disadvantaged and discriminated against. We still live in a patriarchal society and patriarchal structures where women face inequalities. Yet it is the equality of women that is one of the most reliable solutions to global issues, such as breaking people and nations free from poverty.

As the pandemic continues, it sharply reveals to what extent caring professions are essential. The situation of women, who represent most of these workers, has gained more publicity as well as the fact that these professions are underrated, both symbolically and financially, because they are closely linked to female work.

Let’s care and cooperate.

Our contemporary art scene often discusses feminist institutions and which of them are feminist and progressive, and to what extent. Many institutions join the network of feminist institutions and consider themselves as such. Yet it is better to go beyond claims and become such an institution. We believe this is the future.

Future Is Female

A free sequel to the project Sand in the Gears – Piekło kobiet which was an expression of our institutional and personal solidarity and our support of Polish protests against the ruling of the Polish Constitutional Court that made it virtually impossible to undergo legally an interruption. The project also expressed our support of women in Slovakia where there have been similar efforts to make access to interruptions more difficult.

PLATO’s visual intervention in a public space was initiated by Zuzana Šrámková and Jakub Adamec.

Zuzana Šrámková is a production manager in PLATO and photographer. She organizes independent concerts and the Chee chaak festival. Šrámková is graduate of the Studio of Photography at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ostrava. She lives in Ostrava.

Jakub Adamec is PLATO dramaturge and curator, member of the audio-visual group I Love 69 Popgejů. He worked for the Czech Centre in Warsaw (Poland), Třinec Municipal Gallery and in Ostrava gallery Strážná věž (Watch Tower). Adamec is graduate of the Intermedia Studio of the Institute of Fine Arts Studies at the University of Ostrava. He lives in Ostrava.
