Presentation and discussion with renowned architect Robert Konieczny, the author of the reconstruction of the Ostrava slaughterhouse.

Robert Konieczny, Polish architect and author of the reconstruction will come to Ostrava on the occasion of the temporary opening of the reconstructed Ostrava abattoir, which will become the main seat of the PLATO gallery as of September 2022. Konieczny will complement the exhibitions, which will tell the story of the building and its author and will be accessible in the temporarily opened building during May and June, with a lecture and a discussion. Born in the nearby town of Katowice, Konieczny will present the parallels and differences between the Ostrava project and the designs his architectural studio created over more than 20 years of its existence.

The renowned Polish architect graduated from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland, and founded his studio, KWK Promes, in 1999. A member of the French Academy of Architecture, he has been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award and has won numerous awards in his native Poland and across Europe. Among his most celebrated buildings are his conceptual designs of family houses Ark, Safe House and Aatria House and the award-winning Dialogue Centre of the National Museum in Szczecin. In 2009, his work was presented by the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava and the Cabinet of Architecture at the exhibition Logic of Space.

The month of open doors is organized by the City of Ostrava in cooperation with PLATO and the Municipal Studio of Spatial Planning and Architecture (MAPPA).

PLATO will start its activity in the reconstructed building of the slaughterhouse in September 2022.
