The experiment with building PLATO’s backup facilities is coming to fruition with the presentation of a collection of works of art which have been the subject of preliminary debate and professional assessment.
Works by the laureates of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, the most important Czech mark of recognition for artists up to 35, are the fulcrum for our visitors. The different works of art from the Magnus Art Collection test the limits of the vast area of almost 5000 m² and vice versa. The method of their installation is simultaneously a polemic with the traditional format of an exhibition, when the arrangement of the works in an exhibition room forms a logical web of relationships and a particular story.
“The set of works of art in the Magnus Art collection represents a digest, as preferred by the experts, of Contemporary Czech Art after 1989. Thanks to a simple key, according to which the acquisitions are works by the laureates of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, the collection logically expands over time without being determined by the taste or predilections of the owner. Although a number of important artists are missing, it is the consequence of the selection and preferences arising from the dialogue between curators and critics, and the rule that each “competition” should have only one winner.
The displayed works of art, which constitute an independent layer of this year’s Temporary Structures, are treated as tried and tested quality, which can be used as a point of reference or appropriate accompaniment of projects which are more daring in nature. ”
